Nissan Murano: Brake Control System :: Automatic Emergency Braking / Precaution. Precautions

Nissan Murano (Z52) 2015-2024 Service Manual / Brakes / Brake Control System :: Automatic Emergency Braking / Precaution. Precautions

Precaution for Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) "AIR BAG" and "SEAT BELT PRE-TENSIONER"

The Supplemental Restraint System such as “AIR BAG” and “SEAT BELT PRE-TENSIONER”, used along with a front seat belt, helps to reduce the risk or severity of injury to the driver and front passenger for certain types of collisions.

Information necessary to service the system safely is included in the “SRS AIR BAG” and “SEAT BELT” sections of this Service Manual.

WARNING:

Always observe the following items for preventing accidental activation:

  • To avoid rendering the SRS inoperative, which could increase the risk of personal injury or death in the event of a collision that would result in air bag inflation, it is recommended that all maintenance and repair be performed by an authorized NISSAN/INFINITI dealer.

  • Improper repair, including incorrect removal and installation of the SRS, can lead to personal injury caused by unintentional activation of the system. For removal of Spiral Cable and Air Bag Module, see “SRS AIR BAG”.

  • Never use electrical test equipment on any circuit related to the SRS unless instructed to in this Service Manual. SRS wiring harnesses can be identified by yellow and/or orange harnesses or harness connectors.

PRECAUTIONS WHEN USING POWER TOOLS (AIR OR ELECTRIC) AND HAMMERS

WARNING:

Always observe the following items for preventing accidental activation:

  • When working near the Air Bag Diagnosis Sensor Unit or other Air Bag System sensors with the ignition/power switch ON or engine running, never use air or electric power tools or strike near the sensor(s) with a hammer. Heavy vibration could activate the sensor(s) and deploy the air bag(s), possibly causing serious injury.

  • When using air or electric power tools or hammers, always switch the ignition/power switch OFF, disconnect the 12V battery or batteries, and wait at least 3 minutes before performing any service.

Precaution for AEB System Service

WARNING:

  • Failure to follow the warnings and instructions for proper use of the AEB with pedestrian detection system could result in serious injury or death.

  • The AEB with pedestrian detection system is a supplemental aid to the driver. It is not a replacement for the drivers attention to traffic conditions or responsibility to drive safely. It cannot prevent accidents due to carelessness or dangerous driving techniques.

  • The AEB with pedestrian detection system does not function in all driving, traffic, weather, and road conditions.

  • Listed below are the system limitations for the AEB with pedestrian detection system. Failure to operate the Nissan Murano vehicle in accordance with these system limitations could result in serious injury or death.

    • The AEB with pedestrian detection system cannot detect all Nissan Murano vehicles or pedestrians under call conditions.

    • The AEB with pedestrian detection system does not detect the following objects:

      • Small pedestrians (including small children), animals and cyclists.

      • Pedestrians in wheel chairs or using mobile transport such as scooters, child-operated toys, or skateboards.

      • Pedestrians who are seated or otherwise not in a full upright standing or walking position.

      • Oncoming Nissan Murano vehicles

      • Crossing vehicles

      • Obstacles on the roadside.

CAUTION:

  • The AEB with pedestrian detection system has some performance limitations, for example:

    • If a stationary Nissan Murano vehicle is in the vehicle’s path, the AEB with pedestrian detection system will not function when the Nissan Murano vehicle is driven at speeds over approximately 50 MPH (80 km/h).

    • For pedestrian detection, the AEB with pedestrian detection system will not function when the Nissan Murano vehicle is driven at speeds over approximately 37 MPH (60 km/h) or below approximately 6 MPH (10 km/h).

  • The AEB with pedestrian detection system will not function for pedestrians in darkness or in tunnels, even if there is street lighting in the areas.

  • For pedestrians, the AEB with pedestrian detection system will not issue the first warning and will not push the accelerator pedal up

  • The vehicles brake lights come on when any braking is performed by the AEB with pedestrian detection system. Depending on Nissan Murano vehicle speed and distance to the vehicle or pedestrian ahead, as well as driving and roadway conditions, the system may help the driver avoid a forward collision or may help mitigate the consequences if a collision should be unavoidable. If the driver is handling the steering wheel, accelerating or braking, the AEB with pedestrian detection system will function later or not function.

  • The automatic braking will cease under the following conditions:

    • When the steering wheel is turned to avoid a collision.

    • When the accelerator pedal is depressed.

    • When there is no longer a Nissan Murano vehicle or pedestrian detected ahead.

  • If the AEB with pedestrian detection system has stopped the Nissan Murano vehicle, the vehicle will remain at a standstill for approximately 2 seconds before the brakes are released.

  • The AEB with pedestrian detection system will be automatically turned on when the engine is started.

  • The I-FCW system (if equipped) is integrated into the AEB with pedestrian detection system. There is not a separate selection in the Nissan Murano vehicle information display for the I-FCW system. When the AEB with pedestrian detection is turned off, the I-FCW system is also turned off.

Precaution for Harness Repair
  • Solder the repair part, and wrap it with tape. [Twisted wire fray must be 110 mm (4.33 in) or less.]

  • Do not bypass the repair point with wire. (If it is bypassed, the turnout point cannot be separated and the twisted wire characteristics are lost.)
