BRAKE SW

(Stop lamp switch circuit)
Stop lamp switch signal is sent to ECM for extremely long time while the Nissan Murano vehicle is being driven.

POSSIBLE CAUSE

  • Harness and connectors (Stop lamp switch circuit is shorted.)

  • Stop lamp switch

DTC CONFIRMATION PROCEDURE

PRECONDITIONING

If DTC Confirmation Procedure has been previously conducted, always perform the following procedure before conducting the next test.

  1. Turn ignition switch OFF and wait at least 10 seconds.

  2. Turn ignition switch ON.

  3. Turn ignition switch OFF and wait at least 10 seconds.

GO TO 2.

COMPONENT FUNCTION CHECK

With CONSULT

  1. Turn ignition switch ON.

  2. Select “DATA MONITOR” mode of “ENGINE” with CONSULT.

  3. Check that the “BRAKE SW” indication as per the following condition.

    Monitor item Condition Indication
    BRAKE SW Brake pedal Fully released OFF
    Slightly depressed ON

Without CONSULT

  1. Turn ignition switch OFF.

  2. Check the stop lamp when depressing and releasing the brake pedal.

    Brake pedal Stop lamp
    Fully released Not illuminated
    Slightly depressed Illuminated

Is the inspection result normal?

YES>>

To check malfunction symptom before repair: Refer to Intermittent Incident.

YES>>

Confirmation after repair: INSPECTION END

NO>>

Proceed to Diagnosis Procedure.

Diagnosis Procedure

CHECK STOP LAMP SWITCH FUNCTION

  1. Turn ignition switch OFF.

  2. Disconnect ECM harness connector.

  3. Check the voltage between ECM harness connector and ground as per the following conditions.

    + Condition

    Voltage

    (Approx.)
    ECM
    Connector Terminal
    E32 139 Ground Brake pedal Fully released 0 V
    Slightly depressed Battery voltage

Is the inspection result normal?

YES>>

Check intermittent incident. Refer to Intermittent Incident.

NO>>

Fixed at 0 V: GO TO 2.

NO>>

Fixed at battery voltage: GO TO 4.

CHECK STOP LAMP SWITCH POWER SUPPLY

  1. Disconnect stop lamp switch harness connector.

  2. Check the voltage stop lamp switch harness connector and ground.

    + Voltage
    Stop lamp switch
    Connector Terminal
    E38 1 Ground Battery voltage

Is the inspection result normal?

YES>>

GO TO 3.

NO>>

Perform the trouble diagnosis for power supply circuit.

CHECK STOP LAMP SWITCH SIGNAL CIRCUIT

  1. Check the continuity stop lamp switch harness connector and ECM harness connector.

    + Continuity
    Stop lamp switch ECM
    Connector Terminal Connector Terminal
    E38 2 E32 139 Existed
  2. Also check harness for short to ground and short to power.

Is the inspection result normal?

YES>>

GO TO 4.

NO>>

Repair or replace error-detected parts.

CHECK STOP LAMP SWITCH

Check stop lamp switch. Refer to Component Inspection.

Is the inspection result normal?

YES>>

Check intermittent incident. Refer to Intermittent Incident.

NO>>

Replace stop lamp switch. Refer to Exploded View.

Component Inspection

CHECK STOP LAMP SWITCH-I

  1. Turn ignition switch OFF.

  2. Disconnect stop lamp switch harness connector.

  3. Check the continuity between stop lamp switch harness connector terminals as per the following conditions.

    Stop lamp switch Condition Continuity
    +
    Terminal
    1 2 Brake pedal Fully released Not existed
    Slightly depressed Existed

Is the inspection result normal?

YES>>

INSPECTION END

NO>>

GO TO 2.

CHECK STOP LAMP SWITCH-II

  1. Adjust stop lamp switch installation. Refer to Adjustment.

  2. Check the continuity between stop lamp switch harness connector terminals as per the following conditions.

    Stop lamp switch Condition Continuity

    Slightly depressed Existed

Is the inspection result normal?

YES>>

INSPECTION END

NO>>

Replace stop lamp switch. Refer to Exploded View.
